For the past few years, my beloved husband has given me books for Christmas. One year it was Harry Potter. Another year it was the Twilight series (before Kristen Stewart destroyed the franchise). Last year, he gave me The Hunger Games trilogy. It's one of my favorite Christmas rituals.
This year I dropped a few hints. I'm a control freak that way. I've heard good things about the Game of Thrones series. I hinted about that one pretty strongly. The Mortal Instruments series was recommended highly by a good friend whose opinion I trust. There were a few others, older ones, I hadn't read yet from last years' list.
He surprised me with a series I hadn't even thought about: The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini. I didn't even know it was called The Inheritance Cycle. My students called them the Eragon books. I always meant to read them, but never got around to it. I'm excited to have the chance now.
My little man wants to read them also. My beloved will read them after I do so we can talk about them (another favorite Christmastime tradition). I will read some aloud to Mr. Autism and see if it interests him. We're a bookish family.
What Christmas gift traditions do you have in your family/circle of friends?
Also, any book recommendations? I always love those.
