NaNoWriMo and chicken-counting

I wonder, at this stage in my life, whether I will outgrow the habit of counting my chickens before they hatch.

I was so certain I would finish the rough draft before November 1st, i.e. in time for NaNoWriMo.

At first, I thought I'd be done by Friday. That didn't happen- poor Mr. Autism's asthma/allergies are acting up since it hasn't rained in over a month and he stayed home with me for a couple of days for "Fun with Nebulizers!".

He is fine now, of course. On Friday, I thought, well, I'll just sacrifice the weekend, and finish then.

Nope. Friday night was the Fall Festival at church. Saturday morning- football game for Mr. Smarty Pants. Saturday afternoon commenced the Hunt for a Pumpkin that Doesn't Suck (found it!). Saturday night our old friend Captain Morgan stopped by for a while to hang out with the beloved geek and I.

And then Sunday- Halloween.

So NaNoWriMo has started, without me. I've already written 1500 words (rounded to nearest hundred) today, but it won't count towards NaNoWriMo (which is exceedingly fun to type). These words are finishing up Book 1.

NaNoWriMo is all about Book 2 for me.

I'll be starting late, as soon as I finish the rough draft of Book 1. Or not. And I refuse to jinx myself by making a prediction of when that will be. Or even if it will be.
