On the pepper front, I harvested a nearly-full large size Ziploc bag of beautiful cayennes. Two of the three are producing now, and the third is growing, slowly but steadily. The original has grown so much it needs to be re-staked. I don't mind that kind of chore.
The banana peppers were huge and beautiful, although there were ants crawling all over the two topsy-turvy containers, which is a first. A few of the jalapenos were slightly woody looking, but overall they've done quite well, and are getting very big indeed. It's probably time to fertilize again, since it's been about a month. Between those two, I filled a large Ziploc bag. Tomorrow I will prep them for later canning, and I think I will weigh the banana peppers. I may have enough for my first batch. If not, definitely the next harvesting round will do it. I'm so excited about that- such a housewifey geek, if such a thing exists.
All of my peas drowned. The drainage is still not great, and there was a whole lot of rain. It's still early enough to plant more seeds though.
Two more tomatoes are dead as well. I don't know why. I have had no luck with tomatoes this year. I think I may buy the pre-started ones at Home Depot this week, if it is any drier.
One of the two bell peppers in the ground is still alive, and the ones in the containers made it. The banana pepper in the container did not. The romaine lettuce loved the slightly cooler weather, and is ready to pick when we're ready to eat it. I can't wait.
I have plenty of transplanting to do, plenty of staking in the front gardens, and more seeds to start in the ground, once it dries off a little. Weather forecast looks iffy though.
We needed the rain. Now we just need the sun.
