A Day Without the Internets...

Yesterday, a construction mishap in our area caused the Internets (what my 6 year old calls it) to be broken for most of the day.

This threw a serious wrench in my plans for The Beast for the day.

I am still finishing the planning stages, namely, well, naming people. Specifically, coming up with the super-identities of the villains and heroes. There are 11 names I am happy with so far, leaving a whopping 13 left. The naming process involves quite a bit of brainstorming, beating my head against a wall, using a thesaurus for ideas, translating from English to Latin for root word ideas, more brainstorming, and then checking various sources to see if a name has been used previously, and then maybe, just maybe, finding the right name for the character.

The Latin-English dictionary I have is fairly small and not nearly obscure enough for my needs, and the only thesaurus in our house is a children's version. I rely on the internets fairly heavily.

Clearly, it was time for Plan B: bake something and come up with a new goal for the day.

Friday's culinary delight was Rice Krispy treats, the perennial family favorite that doubles as an upper body workout. The new goal for the day? Spend some serious quality time with the character biographies (see Elizabeth George's wonderful book Write Away for details). They've gone from maybe 50% complete to 75%.

Plan B may not be good for the waistline, but it's the only method I've found that keeps my family happy and stops me from getting stuck when Plan A doesn't work out for whatever reason.
