No, it's not actually bedtime, although this heat makes me want to lounge around in air-conditioned splendor the whole day long. It has been bed building time though.
Building garden beds in this weather is slightly insane, so of course we have been doing it regularly. And by we, I mean, I've suggested strongly that it needs to happen and then acted as head cheerleader for my Beloved Geek and Mr. Smarty Pants as they engage in manly feats of carpentry. My jobs come a little later in the process.
Mr. Smarty Pants helps to drill the sections of 2x4x10 together.
That's my baby, handling power tools like a pro. He's 10 now.
Next comes the weed barrier, stapled directly to the bottom of the bed.
Next, we lay it out in the garden.
My beloved geek, (rightly) proud of himself. Love that smile!
Mr. Smarty Pants uses fabric staples to secure the perimeter.
Add in the soil and amendments (composted cow manure and peat moss), rake it together, and voila! New raised bed. Notice how carefully Mr. Autism is supervising to make sure everything is just right.
It's sweaty work, but we're fortunate to be able to do it.
