Mr. Autism and I had some time to kill between dropping off Mr. Smarty Pants at his charter school and a doctor's appointment this morning. I needed more seed starting mix, so off we went to Wal-Mart. In spite of my current abundance of seeds at home, I really love to look at seed packets and see what's available. (Either you'll understand that or you won't. Love you anyways.)
Wal-Mart has started carrying 20 cent seed packets. That's right: $0.20 for a small packet of seeds. Most seed packets I buy are between $1.59-$3.50, depending on the size, rarity, etc. With a few exceptions (green beans and sunflowers to name a few), I always have leftover seeds. Smaller seed packets at a really low price is a true blessing for someone as interested in plant diversity as I am.
I did not buy one of each available packet, although I was tempted. No one in my family likes radishes, and I have more than enough seeds left of some plants at home. Here's a breakdown:
Edible:
Basil
Tomato (Rutgers)
Sweet Corn (Golden Cross Bantam Hybrid)
Cherokee Wax Garden Bean
Top Crop Garden Bean
Harvester Garden Bean
Contender Garden Bean
Decorative:
Morning Glory (Choice Mixed Colors)
Shasta Daisy (Alaska)
Calendula (Pacific Beauty)
Oriental Poppy (Mixed Color)
Petunia (Mixed Colors)
Bachelor Button (Cyanus Double Mixed Colors)
Pansy (Swiss Giants)
Moonflower
Portulaca (Moss Rose)
The tricky part is that I will likely run out of seed starting mix again, which could mean more $0.20 seed packets finding their way home with me. Life is rough like that sometimes. I'm off to start some of these seeds.
