Morning Cup O' Joe - MIllstone Foglifter

This morning, I am sitting and drinking the "Foglifter" blend by Millstone, K-Cup edition. The Keurig machine was a beautiful gift from my beloved geek for Christmas. I spent two days on a caffeine high, from the simple wonder of it. Yesterday morning, I ran out of the Starbucks House Blend Medium K-cups multipack. These little K-cup beauties tend to be slightly more expensive than your average bag of beans.

I consider it worth the price difference, given that in the mornings, when I am rushing, sometimes the process of making a whole pot of coffee is too much work. I know I won't be able to finish more than 1 cup, and there is always leftover coffee in the pot. The clean-up tends to be a hassle, even though I love the power of my grind and brew machine. So, generally what I have ended up doing is stopping at Dunkin' Donuts on the way to work and spending $3 on a cup of coffee and a donut. K-cups cost far less than $3 per cup. It's a savings based on behavior, not in direct comparison with the typical bag of beans. Maybe if I was not the only coffee-drinker in this house it might be less cost-effective. It is what it is though.

It is very easy in the morning to stumble into the kitchen, press the "On" button on my Keurig, and start getting things assembled for the day while it heats the water up (less than 2 minutes). After that, pop in the K-cup, put a mug under the drip spout (or whatever it's called), press the button, and wait for a few moments. It's instant coffee that doesn't taste instant! This is one of the seminal inventions of the 21st century.

Anyhow, returning to the Millstone "Foglifter" blend. Why did I select this particular one? The answer is simple: coupons.

I had a coupon for $2 off of 1 box of 12 K-cups. The starting price is $8.99. After the coupon, I paid $6.99. That works out to roughly $0.58 per cup for the sweet elixir of happiness and consciousness. Also, given that I have enjoyed Millstone "Foglifter" blend in bean form, it seemed likely that the K-cup version would be acceptable. I gambled enough to buy 2 boxes.

Fortunately, it paid off. The "Foglifter" blend is quite tasty: medium-roast to medium-intensity, no burnt overtones, just a mellow, smooth blend. I give it a 5 cup rating (out of 5).

I am a happy woman this morning.
