I have been following with interest the clinical trials of arbaclofen, a drug being tested to improve social skills and general behavior basically of persons with autism spectrum disorder. It's the first trial of a drug that's not an anti-psychotic or not an anti-depressant, and that alone is worthy of celebration. The anti-psychotics and anti-depressants do well at relieving symptoms but don't touch the underlying causes for the behaviors.
The Phase II results are in, and look promising, inasmuch as any clinical trial results can. The New Scientist has an article
here. I hope Phase III goes well, and starts quickly.
Every step taken is a step closer to a cure.
