Today is one of those days. Mr. Autism started it. He accidentally broke an entryway piece of furniture yesterday, the kind nearly every house in America has, with hooks for backpacks, a shoe cabinet underneath, and a shelf for baskets with keys and whatnot above it. Whoopsie daisy, I should've bought a sturdier one. Oh well.
We've already been to Lowe's, where Mr. Autism had a giant-sized meltdown (partially brought to you by Mr. Smarty Pants, who would not stop getting in his face), and my busy bee husband is on trip two (solo) to Home Depot, for the stuff we couldn't find at Lowe's because of the meltdown.
So far he's installed replacement weather stripping on the front and back doors, an airflow vent over the guest room/my office, and fixed a few small little annoying things that accumulated since the last "we gotta get this house in order" frenzy.
Yesterday, we finally managed to clear off the back porch! I now have a table in an otherwise useless corner of the backyard (the northwestern corner, if you're keeping track) for planting activities and containers. I've started to scrub it off with vinegar, water, baking soda for the tough spots and lots of elbow grease, as I do not want to use outdoor bleach so close to where I plant things we put in our mouths.
The large, round overflow plastic self-watering seed starter I created the other day and put herbs in is starting to get sproutlings, and is now sitting on the sheltered front porch for hardening off. The oregano was the early winner, followed closely by chamomile, parsley, marjoram and dill. Still waiting on spearmint, cilantro, sage, and marjoram.
I doubt there will be time or energy to get to the giant city mulch pile today, but maybe after work one day this week it can happen. Regardless of mulch levels, the beans, summer squash, and butternut squash need to get in the ground ASAP. The bananas are ready to be transplanted into the containers they will vacate, and the peas will be ready in a day or two, by which point I think the carrots will be ready to go in the ground. Still no signs of life yet from the bell peppers or the balm lemon inside.
Today, outside, at a minimum, we need to take out the seeper hoses that aren't working right, and put in the right kind, which we now have. We did figure out why- they are the sprinkler type, not the true seeping type. Whoops! At least we can put them in the front garden beds, where they should be more effective.
It's busy, but it's a fun kind of busy. Tomorrow, I will be planting and writing, with a shower in between the two activities so that I don't get my keyboard filthy. :)
